Toshiba's Methanol Fuel Cell for Cell Phones

Posted by Kallan Dahn Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Toshiba has just announced a new DCMF (Direct Methanol Fuel Cell) that is small enough to fit into a cellular phone. A 50ml fuel cell refill would be enough to charge a cell phone 15 times, and last approximately 6 hours of talk time! This new fuel cell uses a chemical reaction between water, methanol, and air to create power. No specific date has been released for commercially availability of this new fuel cell, but they are working to try to make it available by next year.
