Digit wireless developes next text input

Posted by Kallan Dahn Friday, September 5, 2008

A new text input method using "trace" technology has been developed by DigitWireless. The new technology allows users to touch the first letter in the word and slide their finger across the keys to each of the next letters. "Trace" technology requires a phone with a "touch-capacitence enabled keypad". The technology has not been licenced yet by any handset manufacturers, but it is now available as an option. Provided this technology works as advertised, I can see this catch on as the primary text input method of mobile devices. This will eliminate the issues with an screen keypads in higher end mobile devices. I can see this technology be adapted as a mode of input on multi-touch capable touch screen devices like the iPhone. This will certainly help with one handed operation on such devices.
