M3e charges your phone by walking

Posted by Kallan Dahn Monday, August 25, 2008

Renewable energy company M2E has developed a cell phone charger based on kinetic energy. The charger is power by simply walking! Only six hours of walking will charge the units internal battery and the battery should last between 30 and 60 minutes of talk time. The company expects the chargers to be available in the second or third quarter of 2009. They are continuing to try to advance the technology to be included directly into the cell phones. I personally feel this is a much better use of the technology. Who really wants another charger to manage, remember to take with you, and especially remember to actually plug into your phone. This reminds me of another story I posted early in the life of this blog. "Cell phone gets charged by your electric slide". There is also of course "Wind up cell charger?!". I just don't think green technology is going to catch on in the mobile space unless it is put right into the phones.
