Cell Phone Jamming 101

Posted by Kallan Dahn Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Current officials in both state and local police forces want the ability to jam cellular phone signals during some events, to help prevent terrorism. One problem. Anyone jamming a licensed signal is committing a felony. Only the federal government is allowed to jam a licensed frequency. The theory behind this suggests that blocking cellular signal in a limited range during events, will prevent possible terror groups from collaborating to accomplish their goals. However, this leaves the average person high and dry. Jamming the signal would leave anyone with a cellular phone unable to call 911 in the event of an emergency! Cellular jamming is becoming an extremely hot debate. Do you think the government should have the ability to block your cellular phone access. Including 911, to help stop terrorist activities? Would you be willing to accept some form of this, if so under what conditions? Weigh in in the comments!
