A new startup company is in the works called Square. The company, started by Jack Dorsey (founder of Twitter) is geared toward allowing individuals accepts payments via credit or debit card. The card reader will plug into the 3.5mm headset jack, and will swipe the cards. End users won't be charged anything, and offers security measures such as text message verification for payments. One cent of each transaction will be donated to a charity of the users choice. The services started this month with a limited beta, and is expected for full release in early 2010.
