Hybrid Sat-Cell Genus Approved By FCC

Terrestar has announced the up coming release of a Hybrid cellular handset that will make use of both the terrestrial tower networks, and a satalite based network when outside of the covered area.  The phone named Genus will be enabled with quad-band GSM and Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA 3G radios.  The phone will offer a 2.6in touch screen, QWERTY keyboard, Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS.  The phone will be operating on At&t's network.  Cost of the handset has not yet been established, but will be available with the release of the service in first quarter 2010.
