Apple May Be Testing Next iPhone

Posted by Kallan Dahn Tuesday, December 1, 2009

November usage data that was supplied by Analytics provider Pinch Media included a curious phone identifier.  Current models of the iPhone (3G S) use the identifier iPhone2,1.  The new anomoly that has occured positions a phone identifier as iPhone3,1.  The identifyer could indicate that Apple is field testing the next generation iPhone.  The iPhone 2,1 identifier surfaced within these reports in October 2008, just 8 months before the release of the iPhone 3G S.  This could signal the release of the long awaited improvement to the iPhone.  There is no concrete details about the iPhone yet.  Specualtion has it that the next iPhone will support a multi-core processor and be released on the Verizon Wireless network.  If so, that would position the phone due out mid-2010.
