Verizon Chooses Spirent for LTE Device Certification

Posted by Kallan Dahn Wednesday, January 20, 2010

In preperation for the upcomming launch of LTE, Verizon Wireless has announced they will be contracting with Spirent Communications for device testing and certification.  Verizon will be opening their LTE network (per terms of the 700mhz spectrum auction) to other companies, and allow customer to bring their own devices as long as they are compatible with the network.  Spirent will be responsible for testing hardware, providing testing simulators, and system simulators to test hardware and software for network compatibility.  Any companies that intend to develop devices that will take advantage of Verizon's 700 mhz C-Block spectrum on LTE will be required to have their devices certified before they are offered, and will be able to do so in the near future.  Spirent is the first of many device testing and certification vendors expected to be announced in the comming months, as Verizon promises a rather agressive build-out path for their LTE network.
