According to chatter among insiders in Tiwan the price to the US femtocell will fall below $100 next year. Currently US Femtocells are closer to $250, but with falling production costs manufacturers like Zyxel, and Gemtek are looking at pushing harder into the emerging technology. Femotocell networks possibilities may be able to do for mobile operators what Wifi did for internet companies a few years ago. With beefier femtocells of the horizon, we can expect to start seeing more functionality from the cell than simply voice-coverage. The femtocell is expected to start shaping into a mobile network capable of syncing your photos, media, and information to your home PC over the air.
