NTT DoCoMo to Shut Down 2G in 2012

NTT DoCoMo has announced at a recent financial "reveal", that the company would be switching off March 31st, 2012. Currently DoCoMo has 88% of their subscribers on 3G services. The home-grown PCS 2G service is currently host to a remaining 6.7 Million subscribers. These subscribers will be offered an incentive to upgrade to the newer 3G services before they are turned off. DoCoMo's market share is currently 51%. The network currently supports 54 Million subscribers, with most residing on their WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) 3G service.
