OLED Screens Gets Touch Capable

Posted by Kallan Dahn Saturday, October 11, 2008

OLED or Organic Light Emitting Diodes get the ability to be controlled by touch. Touch screens normally have an extra layer on top of the screen to detect the touch to the scree, but the new OLED touch technology engineered by Fraunhofer IPMS does not require the touch layer. The OLED screen can actually read the touch and pass the information on the rest of the device. Currently they are implimenting this technology to turn lights on by touch. They did not specify whether the new screens could be used for mobile device touch screens.
