Computer manufacturer Acer is looking into adding 3G capable chips to the traditional 802.11 b/g access that has become common place with laptops. Currently Acer is considering T-Mobile International , Vodaphone Inc, and Orange to provide HSDPA or HSUPA access so their laptop users will be able to access the internet from anywhere 3G cellular service is available.
Are we going to start to see FREE laptops with 2 year activation. I wouldn't bank on this in the near future as mobile carriers in the United States already don't like to subsidise the handsets. Cellular carriers might decide to jump this hurdle if they can see a significant increase in their top-shelf mobile broadband products.
