Clearwire CEO Bill Morrow has announced that while the company is currently focused on aircards and laptops, we can expect WiMAX enabled smart phones in the second half of 2010.  Don't expect them by summer, but im sure someone is going to get some nice Christmas presents next year.

Sprint and Clearwire announced this morning that they have expanded their 4G WiMAX coverage into Seattle, Honolulu, and Maui.  This announcement comes about a week after they announced they have aquired enough funding to complete their 2010 expansion plan.  Looks like we can expect Sprint and Clearwire to waste no time in putting up these new sites.

Clearwire Raises More Funding

Clearwire is aggressively raising funding to complete its plan for the build-out of their mobile WiMAX network.  In a new round of funding Clearwire raised $920 Million in debt financing.  12% of the funding is in secured notes due in 2015.  The total capital raised in the past few weeks is $2.8 Billion in a combinatin of debt and equity financing.  The amount exceeds their estimated $2.3 Billion to carry out their build out plan.  The build-out plan has a goal to cover 120 Million Points of Presense (POPs) with WiMAX by the end of 2010.
"With this latest tranche of additional funding, we have not only exceeded the amount of capital that we have previously stated we needed to fully fund our business plan, but we have also secured additional capital that will allow us to expand more aggressively by covering more people, and with more capacity than we had previously planned," Clearwire CEO Bill Morrow.

Third quarter losses for the company totaled $82.42 Million, an increase from $72.7 Million Q3 last year.  Clearwires revenue, however also increase 13% among the chaos to $68.8 Million for Q3.  After the announcement for the additional raise in funding Clearwire had an increase in stock price of almost 6%.  Thats enough to settle the stock neatly around $6 per share.

The China based company Huawei will be looking to bolster their position in the United States market next year.  The company currently has 900 employees in North America, and has recently won several key contracts this year including Cox 3G CDMA Network, and supplier for Clearwire's WiMAX network.  Huawei even opened an LTE development laboratory in Texas.  Huawei is currently eyeing business from Teir 1 US operators, and has recently taken over as the worlds second largest mobile equipment vendor. (according to market share)
"U.S is a very important market to Huawei.  We are increasing staff there to support a rise in customer business." Said Robert Fox, Cheif Branding Officer Huawei wireless division, in an interview with Dow Jones Newswires.

FCC: Sprint and Clearwire Are Given The Green Light

Posted by Kallan Dahn Tuesday, November 4, 2008 0 comments

Today the FCC decided in favor of Sprint and Clearwire approving their merger with a unanimous vote. The FCC refrained from using the usual bench marks on this merger, as both parties are not entering the market with spectral holdings, and the new entity does not compete directly with any other entity. The commission, instead, focused on the possible positives and negatives that this would bring. The commission agreed the biggest winner in the approval of this merger is the consumer. The merger will bring new innovative services, while up-holding the FCC's high regard for openness and choice for consumers. Handset manufacturers, Venders, and Content creators will not need to seek permission to innovate, instead the insert a WIMAX radio, and submit the device to the FCC for approval. As a condition of this mergers approval Sprint must voluntarily terminate their high cost universal service support over a period of 5 years. They must also submit to county regulation for E911 compliance rules set by the FCC.
