Rural telecomunications group petitions FCC

Posted by Kallan Dahn Thursday, July 17, 2008

The FCC received a petition from the rural telecomunicatios group to reinstate the wireless spectrum cap that was lifted in 1993. Growing spectrum holdings from verizon wireless is fueling this petition with worries that major wireless carriers may hold to much spectrum resulting in a type of monopoly. The petition if granted would limit the spectrum holdings of each carrier in each market to 110 mhz. This petition should go hand in hand with the petition filed by the rural cellular association trying to prevent the practice of exclusive phones. This petition was filed in may of 2008.
