Posted by Kallan Dahn Wednesday, July 16, 2008

The Japaneese have done it again. Scientists have developed an new low power flash chip that is capable of lasting many, many years. Conventional flash chips can suffer reduced lifespan when they are written, and rewritten extensivly. These new flash cells called ferroelectric are not only smaller buy may be re-written 100 million times compared to current techology at about 10,000. The new flash chips will also make use of a technology that allows the cells to be used evenly across the chip, and stop the use of spent cells without killing the entire chip. Lifespan of flash memory is currently measured in years. This new memory estimates over 100 years of wear. Flash memory will soon be measured in centenials.
