Samsung: Nanotubes Lead to Epaper

Posted by Kallan Dahn Tuesday, October 28, 2008 0 comments

Samsung and Unidum have teamed up to create the first carbon nanotube based color active matrix electrophoretic display (EPD). These displays are very visible in direct sunlight, and have extremely low power consumption. This technology can be used for many applications. EPaper being just one of them. Touch Screen, POS Terminals, games, Cell Phone, PDA's, etc. The Carbon nanotube technology is very compact, and can be deployed in areas that other options might not be available.

T-Mobile Plans Handset Line Wide App Store

T-Mobile is hoping to take a bite out of Apple by releasing an App store of their very own. While Apple has been very successful thus far with their release, they are only working with 1 phone in 2 flavors. T -Mobile is planning to support all of their handset line up, and open the process to developers. Developers will have a simplistic application process. Don't worry developers, those that are in the know with their revenue sharing details have called their developer compensation plan "Very Generous". More information will become available as they get closer to their expected release. The mad rush to Tmo's App store could be as soon as this Fall.

Nuance has announced a new application in the customers service sector for cellular phones. The applications will be activated by dialing customer care, the the phone will switch to the ap. The application will be capable of displaying such information as current billing information, allowing the customer to make web-based payments, showing the minutes of use, and other vital account information. More in-depth details will be available via a live representative. The hope is the application will be able to identify the proper customer service department, and transfer the customer for one call resolution. This should be an amazing development in the cellular sector in the way of customer satisfaction with the care departments. A cellular carrier has not yet been announced. Nuance is a leader in voice recognition technology, and the owner of award winning voice recognition solution Dragon Naturally Speaking. I would expect to see version two of the application support their voice recognition technology.

There is alot of confusion reguarding data. Here is an article that I wrote about the new 4th generation data technologies titled. The Great 4th Generation Data face Off.

Wireless companies are really heating up a battle for subscribers, revenue, and unique offerings. The newest battle that is set to begin comes in the form of high speed wireless data. There are three weapons to win this battle; each is going to be wielded by companies of very different stature. Here is the tale of the tape.

LTE (long term evolution) is built on top of the 3G technology UMTS (universal mobile telecommunications system). The stinging end of this weapon is the blazing 100mbps download, 50mbps upload, and very low latency.LTE is considered the expected migration of GSM operators. The expected release of this technology is in 2010 making it the last 4G technology to hit the market. Verizon has announced their intention to roll out LTE when it becomes available.
