Today in their community forums, Sprint announced a new software update that will be coming to the Samsung Galaxy SIII. The update coded L710VPLJ7 will include Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. The bugs repaired in this software update will include: improvements to both LTE, and exchange systems, increase accuracy of face unlock, improvements to text message notifications, multiple enhancements to the calendar functionality, high resolution photo back up to Google accounts that are logged in, and voice typing without the requirement on an Internet connection. The updates began rolling out today, and are downloadable over the air (OTA).

Nuance has expanding the capabilities of their Go! Application, and is now providing users with enhanced voice activated features on their smart phones. Users can send social network messages, texts, calls, sets appointments, and access other information from the Internet all by voice. The software can be activated by waking it up by saying "Hi Dragon." The Dragon Mobile Assistant is available in Beta from Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0). T-Mobile will begin bringing mobile security to their Android based devices with Lookout Security. The Lookout app is free, and will come loaded on most of their Android based devices starting in 2013. The security application will turn on with the device, and will actively scan the device from mobile threats. “As we rely more on our mobile devices, for everything from business to social to banking, it is increasingly important that we protect them from threats,” Says John Hering, CEO of Lookout.

According to BGR, their sources at Apple have indicated they are currently testing viability of IOS 6.1 for US based carriers. The new update will include many miscellaneous bug fixes including problems with the camera flash not operating, cellular data not working, lock screen security fix, improved Wifi support, and a bug that caused horizontal lines to run across the screens. There is currently no official release date.

Samsung has decided to sell its stake in Symbian to Nokia. Samsung was the last shareholder that Nokia needed to gain approval from, and will move forward with it's purchase of Symbian. Symbian is a mobile software company behind Symbian OS that many phones run on. The Symbian foundation has been formed by Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and NTT DoCoMo. In partnership with At&T, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments, and Vodaphone will merge Symbian OS, S60, UIQ, and MOAP into one open source mobile platform. Nokia is purchasing the remaining shares of Symbian to give both Symbian OS, and S60 to the foundation. The foundations goal is to increase innovation within the mobile community. Foundation members will not pay royalties for the use of this new mobile operating system.
With months of unofficial windows mobile 6.1 upgrades available for the Touch and the Mogul Sprint and HTC have decided to release an official upgrade. This upgrade changes the onscreen QWERTY keyboard, broadens the broadband access with the addition of EVDO REV A, and Opera integrated into the existing suite of web browsing applications. The official release is available from HTC.

SyncML is now available for Gmail. SyncML will allow users to easily sync contact data from your mobile phone to your PC. Gmail has just made recent improvements to their contact management system, eliminating the addition of email addresses automatically after sending an email. These recently used addresses will be stored in a separate spot.
With non-official versions of the windows 6.1 upgrade floating all over the place, HTC and Sprint has decided to release a Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade. The upgrade changes the on screen QWERTY keyboard, introduces new high speed broadband capabilities in the form of EVDO REV. A, and integrates Opera into its suit of web browsing capabilities.

Opera has announced that a last minute bug that was found will delay the beta release of its newest Mobile browser. Opera has reset the date to July 17th. This will give them the time they need to fix the issue, so that the browser may be fully tested.

Tomarrow july 10th Apple will open up the iphone app store. Version 2 of the iphone firmware will he required for access to the store. Apple has not yet anounced when the firmware will be available to first generation iphone users.
