GetJar just announced that popular web browser Opera Mini has been downloaded more than 25 Millions times from its store alone. The different versions and cross-platform availability have made Opera Mini the most downloaded app ever from any app store to date.
Opera Mini (v4.2) has already claimed responsibility for 7.5 Million downloads from the begining of the year.
"The fact that Opera Mini is the most doanloaded app ever on an open app store like GetJar makes us proud because it proves that our vision of providing a browser that workds on almost all phones will give millions a better way to access the web." said Rolf Assev, Cheif Strategy officer for Opera Software.
GetJar is the world's largest independent application store.
Opera announced that their newest beta browser software (v 9.7) is ready for beta on windows mobile devices. Opera Turbo is a new compression technology that was developed by Opera to help increase the speed of using the internet in full HTML from a mobile device. The Beta is a free download, give it a try.
The Opera web browser for the iPhone has been constructed, tested, and is ready to rock according to Opera. The new version of Opera's mobile browser is being held up by red tape by of all placed Apple. Apple, it seems, has a policy about what applications can enter their app store. Apparently, Apple does not allow software that competes directly with any included function of the phone. The mobile version of Safari may be safe for a while longer as Opera tries to figure out how to get its software to the masses of iPhone users that demand choice.
Sharp, Opera Software, UIQ, and South Korean KTF have joined the Sybian Foundation. The companies will donate resources to help the ultimate goal of an open source operating system.
The newest version of opera mobile is now available to download. You may remember a post a few days ago about delays caused by a last minute bug. Opera delayed the beta to provide a more complete user experience, and allow the full feature set to be tested during the beta.
