Hot of the heels of an $850 Million round of financing for their network
build out, LightSquared gets Nokia and Qualcomm on board for device
production. Qualcomm will be introducing the MDM9600 Multi-Mode LTE
Chipset. Qualcomm will also be introducing a new interface technology
called EGAL (enhances Geostational Air Link). This new interface will
allow mobile devices to operate on the satellite link. Nokia is also
jumping into the ring by providing branded data devices to the company.

Nokia has officially filed lawsuits for patent infringement against Apple. Nokia claims that technology in the iPhone is breaking about 10 patents held by Nokia. Nokia already licenses these patents to 40 other manufacturers, and claims they are vital to the operation of a GSM based handset.
Nokia expets to begin shipping this handset in the fourth quarter 2009. Slated to be available in New Delhi, India and Espoo, Finland. Carriers will support this device both stand alone, and in select markets accompanied by Nokia's Comes with Music service.
Nokia has announced a limited release of their 5800 XpressMusic that will affer a lifetime licence to their Ovi Map product. Ovi map, wich is normally a monthly subscription based product, offers voice guided driving and walking directions. The mapping product also offers a 3D display of 200 cities, points of interest, point to point direction functionality, and detailed terain. The 5800 XpressMusic Nav Edition will include a car charger and vehicle mount for easy operation of the unit as a GPS. Look for it 3rd quarter for about $400.
Nokia has announced they are working on a new form of charging your cellular battery. Like something out of Star Trek Nokia is trying to pull ambient radio waves out of the air, and use it as the energy source to charge your cell phones. The RFID like technology is currently able to harness around 5 milliwatts. Nokia will need to get this to around 50 Milliwatts before they will be able to make use of this energy source for charging a lithium-Ion Battery.
Nokia has enabled support for Lotus Notes Traveler. This software product allows the syncing of Nokia S60 Series 3rd edition phones to access corporate email using Lotus Domino Server software. Lotus Notes Traveler enables the syncing the same types of information as a Microsoft Exchange Server. The new software will be available in December.
Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and LG Electronics have decided to help conserve electricity usage, by implimenting a "Green Rating System" for their chargers. The chargers will recieve a star rating between zero and 5 stars. Cellular phone chargers continue to draw power from the wall when they are plugged in, even if the cell phone is not charging on the other end. Two thirds of the wasted electricity from cellular phones is caused from chargers being left plugged into the wall when not in use.
At&t brings back Nokia's S60 operating platform with the Nokia 6650. The Nokia 6650 is a clamshell running S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2. Quad band GSM/Edge radios and WCDMA running 850/1900 on At&t's 3G network. Stereo Bluetooth +EDR and a 2 MP camera, GPS, and 3.5mm headset jack. The 6650 will support a MicroSDHC card up 8 Gb. At&t is making this phone available for $70 with a 2 year agreement(after rebate) starting November 14th. The phone should be available in all markets nationwide at launch.
The open source Symbian foundation has added even more members. Contributing members of the foundation are freely available to license the new software from the foundation without the need to pay royalties. The recent expansion in membership brings the total member count to 52. ARM, Visa, Huawei, and nine others join the Symbian Foundation. Nokia expects the Symbian Foundation to release a completely new platform by June 2010.
