Voicemail Label Curiously Blocked In Gmail

Posted by Kallan Dahn Tuesday, December 1, 2009 0 comments

Gmail users will find that you can not currently use the label Voicemail to filter your email while in your Gmail account.  When attempted there is an error that indicates Voicemail is a reserved system tag, and that you should try another tag.  This is curious with all the service convergence that has been happening around Google it seems that Google will be looking to integrate Google Voice voicemail messages directly to your Gmail inbox and automatically filter using the Voicemail label.

Google Buys Gizmo5

Google has announced they have purchased VOIP service provider Gizmo5.  Not to worry existing users will still be able to access the same services they have always enjoyed from Gizmo.  The only difference however, is Google has locked out the sign up of any new Gizmo customers.  Google also has plans in place to absorb the Gizmo development team into their Google Voice team.  Google has not announced what features of Gizmo5 they will blend with Google Voice, but it doesn't take a genius to see where Google is headed.  All I have to say it, its about time!

Google Nearly Ends Call Blocking Via Google Voice

Google has been under investigation by the FCC for blocking calls to specific rural carriers. Google claims these numbers are costly to connect to because of agreements these numbers have will 900 number operators. In a letter filed with the FCC, Google has decided to scale back the blocking of calls to fewer than 100 numbers in the United States. The 100 numbers Google is still blocking stem from information Google has that leads them to believe that these numbers are involved in various scams. Google will continue to block these numbers to protect their users.
